Cloud Computing

A focused Cloud programme to provide a common and secure Government private Cloud to assist Government departments to consolidate their solutions, provide efficiency, interoperability and collaboration; is being developed by SITA.

SITA’s will serve government as the national Cloud service provider for the South African government. Our vision is to create and operate a secure and common Cloud service that consolidates government department systems and acts as a mediator for existing Cloud providers.

The establishment of a Government Private Cloud is a greenfield project. SITA will ensure that the solution is aligned with industry best practice and the latest technologies.

The SITA Cloud Programme will

•             Build and operate a common and secure Government private Cloud to assist Government departments to consolidate their solutions. The Government private Cloud will provide efficiency, interoperability and collaboration for all South African Government departments

•             Be the standardizing agent for all Government departments, ensuring that the existing Cloud solutions, systems and applications are interoperable and drives collaboration between the departments

•             Provide an open data platform that allows Government data to be consumed and shared between all departments, driving collaboration between the departments

•             Provide a policy framework to direct Cloud computing adoption by Government departments. This includes standards for all Government departments to design systems/applications in a way that ensures they are interoperable with the Government private Cloud.
